Hello to all my fishing fanatics,
It has been one exceptional steelhead season! 2009-2010 will go down in the book as the all time best season ever. I have been quite busy with all the steelhead we have had this winter and have slacked a little on the current reports so I thought I had better bring you all up to date on what is happening over the next couple months...
Steelhead
We are STILL getting great number of steelhead! Take your pick….Big fish / Clearwater River…. Or…..numbers of fish / Hells Canyon. I have fished both rivers in the last couple weeks and believe me when I say this fishing is worth getting excited over right now, it really is.
I had not fished the Clearwater all season until last week and WOW it is nice to see these 12-17 lb fish! They are a totally different experience all together than the a-run fish on the Snake. On the other river Hells Canyon in kind of phenomenal for this late in the season. I had a 40+ fish day last week! Fish are still bright! Unbelieveable! Here is a pic of myself with fish from the Clearwater last week and a highlight pic from September!

Walleye
With the nice weather we have been having the walleye are on the bite in both the lower Snake and on the Columbia Rivers. We will be concentrating our walleye trips from Mid March – Mid April this season. Stay tuned for walleye reports in the up and coming. Here is a pic of some nice eater walleye we caught on the lower Snake a few days ago out of my 22’ HCM … And a pic of what the BIG ones look like! Monster Walleye like this one Dan Palmer caught can be targeted right now! We are taking bookings for walleye now and the cost is $200 per person. Let us know if you are more interested in a bunch of “Eater” sized fish or wanting to target a trophy fish from 12-18 lbs and we can plan your trip around setting that goal!

Spring Chinook
Springer fishing this season is going to be off the hook! Paralleling our record Steelhead run is a Monster number of Spring run Chinook (you know, the best eating salmon on earth!) that are just now starting to enter the Mouth of the Columbia river. Tribal and State game managers have agreed to a predicted 150,000 + hatchery spring Chinook over Lower Granite Dam & Idaho Rivers in May and June. This means fish numbers comparable to the record run of 2001! I fished the run of 2001 and I am here to tell you I have never seen anything like it before or since. Bar none the best salmon fishing I have had ANYWHERE! Low river levels will make for excellent fishing conditions and an earlier than normal arrival of our Idaho fish. According to the meeting I was at tonight plan for the Clearwater seasons to open in late April and I am expecting fishable numbers of Salmon by no later than MAY 1st! We are looking at a possible opener on the Snake river as well. Stay tuned for additional opportunities on the lower Snake below Lower Granite Dam. Trips are $225 per person and I am expecting at least a 2 fish limit if not 3! Here is a pic of what fishing was like in 2001…. And the Loseth group from 2008. I remember hooking 30+ fish by noon some days, I can’t wait for May! Use the links on my web site and watch the fish counts over Bonneville Dam. In these low water conditions these Springers will be to Lewiston in 2 weeks from the time they cross Bonneville!

Idaho Sportsman Show
For those you in the Boise area I will be attending the Idaho Sportsman show this weekend. March 4-7 you can find me representing Pautzke Bait Company at their booth at the show. I will also be presenting Spring Chinook fishing seminars on Saturday and Sunday. Topics will be fishing techniques and tricks on how to cure bait for Spring Chinook with Pautzke products! Stop by and visit if you have time!
Thanks and Fish On!!!!!
